The target of the project is to reduce the energy costs and further improve the feasibility of a relative small size plastic molding company. The plastic production company is located in a remote small town in Southern Finland.

The process requires cooling water which previously was made with fresh water circulation. Simultaneous the production facility including offices was during the winter time heated by oil boiler.

In this project Calefa Oy combined these two needs in one. There is now a heat pump cooling the process water and transferring the heat from process to facility heating.

Results from the project are showing that even in relative small cases it can be very feasible to reuse the heat of process.  The numerous SME companies can really benefit of the wise use of heat pumps. In this case the customer was able to cut the use of heating oil by 70% and the need of fresh water for cooling by another 70%. The project got an energy investment subsidy of 20% which ensured a less than 3 years payback time. CO2 emission was cut over 10 t annual and the need of fresh water was reduced about 2200 m3 annual. ROI for the investment is over 30%.
