The project aims to utilize old, unused piping from the defunct district heating system. One pipe would be used to bring river water to the buildings where water/water heat pumps will be installed, while the second pipe will return the water to the river. The investment will therefore consist of the pumps at the river and individual heat pumps at customer locations. This is by far the most cost effective way to restart district heating.
The investment will therefore consist of the pumps at the river and individual heat pumps at customer locations. System in Knjaževac can produce about 6MW of heating output. Average units are 50-70m2 for which 6-7KW heat output is sufficient (including sanitary water). This system can serve 4.000 units (6.000 if buildings are to be insulated).
