Turnova

The main purpose of this project is to revitalize the city center of Turnhout and make the entire site accessible for all to enjoy. Due to a fabulous mobility plan connecting 18 bus lines, all within walking distance from the national railway system, the new city center connects seamlessly with the historic center of Turnhout. All housing, shopping and leisure buildings located on this site are connected to an ATES (Aquifer thermal energy storage) system in the subsurface as a temporal storage to handle seasonal variations in the demand for heating and cooling. This technology not only is cost-effective in the reduction of primary energy consumption of the site, it also significantly reduces CO2 emissions traditional fossil fuel energy systems would generate.
