MEETING A UNIQUE HEATING CHALLENGE AND DELIVERING A LOW CARBON SOLUTION FOR A NATIONAL HERITAGE SITE

Nestled near Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands, a prestigious Grade II 15th century hunting estate has benefited from the installation of five of Vaillant’s award-winning aroTHERM plus, air source heat pumps, after its existing electric heating system became inefficient and began to deteriorate.

While the original building is Grade II listed, an additional lodge is also situated in the grounds, which was constructed in 2009. This blend of modern and historic construction methods bought with it a very unique challenge when a new heating and hot water system was required.

Providing a picturesque base for up to 12 visitors to stay when visiting the area, the estate’s existing oil-fired boiler and electric radiators, which were installed in the listed building, needed to be replaced with a more sustainable and efficient system.

Following a review of the estate’s existing heating demand and the customer’s specification, Vaillant’s aroTHERM plus heat pump, and supporting accessories were selected, striking the perfect balance between efficiency and environmental credentials that were sought after by the client.

As truly unique project that reflects the innovative and flexible solutions available through Vaillant, the Loch Ness Hunting Estate shines a light on the ways in which the UK’s heritage buildings can also play a part in wider decarbonisation objectives.
