Hotel Isaacs

•Hotel Isaacs is a grade 1 listed building, built by Dobbins & Ogilvie in the early 1860 design by architects Arthur Hill as a factory for making confectionary. While preparing for the great exhibition of Cork in 1902. They over cooked the sugar & syrup which started a fire and badly damaged the building. The business never recovered from this accident & was subsequently sold too a Tobacco warehouse Company trading was such into 1930. The building was bought by the current owner in 1984 & was turned into the first of its kind youth hostel.

•In 1994 the building was turned into a boutique hotel, which now homes the multi award winning fine dining restaurant Greens restaurant. The Cask bar won Irelands best cocktail bar 2018 – 2019. In 2019 the Cask bar won 9 out of the 10 awards.

•In light of the new NZEB regulations for commercial buildings in Ireland, GS Renewable were asked to reduce the carbon output and reduce the energy operating costs of the hotel & 11 apartments. The existing system was 12 x gas boilers = 1164kW with separate chillers for the bedrooms in half of the hotel.                                                                            

The apartments were upgraded to a capillary tube system using a heating flow temperature of 28℃ -32℃ & a cooling temperature of 16℃ – 19℃ . The hotel existing cast iron radiators were retained using a 50℃ flow temperature while there was a new hydraulic cooling system installed in all the bedrooms using 12℃.
