Fortum eNext and South Dublin County Council are building a low-carbon district heating network optimizing the potential of recyclable heat combined with additional heat-pump technology – the first example of its kind in Ireland. It is exceptional that a district heating network is relying 100% on heat pumps and non-burning technologies. The project is established to build a waste heat recovery based Energy Centre and a 1,5 km long district heating pipeline with heat substations. The district heating energy will be produced with a heat pump solution provided by a Finnish energy startup Nohewa. The heat source for the district heating is waste heat from an Amazon Web Services data centre. An electric boiler will provide a back-up solution for heat production.
