Their target is to phase out coal by 2025 and the roadmap is paved with heat pumps. The ambitious roadmap with multiple heat pump plants demonstrates that various heat sources can be exploited in and around a large city with district heating. The district heating grid makes is possible to utilize and store the fluctuating power production from wind and solar whereby giving a cost efficient renewable alternative to fossil fuels.
